Troubleshooting
We cannot actively block e-mails from individual accounts for our customers.
The overhead on such an option would be immense. Instead of blocking someone
from sending to you, you can setup rules that will simply delete the messages
when they arrive. Please view your e-mail program's help file to find
out how to use this feature.
The most likely cause for people (or mailing lists) being unable to send
you mail is that the mail server address is listed in our DNS Blacklists.
These blacklists are hosted by
ordb.org,
spamcop.net, and
spamhaus.org
and aid our customers by keeping unwanted spam and other e-mails from
reaching them. Unfortunately, this does block some wanted e-mails. Please
have the person sending you messages visit
ordb.org,
spamcop.net, or
spamhaus.org
to check and see if his/her mail server is listed. If you need any assistance
with this, please contact us.
Our mail server is equipped with RAV Antivirus software to prevent the
spread of viruses to our customers. The warning you receive is sent by
this software to warn you that that a certain e-mail message is infected
with a virus. Please note the e-mail message that is infected and delete
it, if necessary. This warning does not state that your computer is infected,
but that a certain e-mail message contains a virus.
There are two common reasons that you may not be able to send mail. One being that you have allowed
greater then 30 minutes to pass since your last login to our mail server. If you do not check your e-mail
within 30 minutes, a timeout is set and you will not be able to send messages. This is a security
precaution that prevents people from exploiting our mail server.
Two is that you have an e-mail account with another provider, but use our mail server to send messages.
You MUST have an account on our mail server to send a message. In order to send the message, you must login
to our mail server by checking the e-mail on that account. We cannot allow open-relay messaging through
the e-mail server, so you must have an e-mail account with us to send e-mail.
To have your messages forwarded, please send an e-mail to
emailforwarding@accessus.net with the current e-mail address and where you would like the e-mails
forwarded to. You must send from the account you wish to forward, or the request will not process.
The reason behind these mysterious return messages is that of the Klez virus. This virus infects
someone's computer and then proceeds to send messages out using e-mail addresses in this person's
address book. These e-mail addresses are used in the "reply" path of sent e-mails, so you receive
the bounced or returned messages instead of the infected computer. For further information please view
Wired news' Klez information page.
Unfortunately, once the messages are deleted, they cannot be retrieved.
Spam is a difficult to evade. We have several spam prevention pieces in place that reduce
the amount of spam our customers receive. Although they may not appear to be working, 33%
of all incoming messages are deleted because they are spam.
It may be impossible to never receive spam through e-mail. Spammers use programs that randomly
generate e-mail addresses in hopes that they guess right. With such intrusion methods, there is
bound to be some spam received by all our customers. Here are a few tips/tricks on how
to reduce spam:
- Do not give your e-mail address to websites unless it is absolutely necessary.
- Never reply to a spam message. This simply informs the spammers that your e-mail account exists.
- Sometimes you should just delete a spam e-mail without viewing it. Some e-mails send out a reply when viewed.
- Have a "junk" e-mail account! Create an account that you use on the web openly.
